Micro Needling
Micro needling is a treatment that uses tiny medical grade needles to penetrate the skin stimulating collagen and elastin production, causing the skin to regenerate and repair itself creating smoother, healthier and brighter looking younger skin. This treatment comes under many names such as Digital Needling, Dry Needling, Meso Vytal, Derma roller, Percutaneous Collagen (PCI), Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) and Skin Needling.
The treatment can significantly improve the appearance of stretch marks and operation scars anywhere on the body, sun damage, acne scars, wrinkles and fine lines, and as a facial to rejuvenate and rebalance skin.
Skin needling can be safely performed on all skin tones and types.
Micro Needling Facials
Micro needling facials can be carried out using a Derma Roller or a digital needling machine. Both treatments involve tiny needles passing over the skin to create small trauma to the skin, this stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and enhances the absorption of the specialist products that will be placed onto the skin.
A topical anaesthetic is applied to the skin prior to the treatment to ensure minimal discomfort if any! Directly after the treatment it is normal for the skin to look red and can compare to a mild to moderate sunburn, however this subsides quickly for most people. It takes a few weeks for the regeneration of collagen so results will continue to improve after the treatment.
Micro Needling for Stretch Marks and Scars
The treatment stimulates collagen regeneration and activates melanocytes which means stretch marks and scars can be greatly reduced in size and also start to regain the natural colour of the skin.
A difference can be seen after a single treatment, however a course of 3-6 treatments is usually recommended for optimum results. At your consultation the area requiring treatment will be assessed and you will be advised as to the best course of action to get you maximum results.
After treatment the area will be red and a little tender, as the skin heals the redness will subside and the top layer of skin will shed away. It can then take 4-8 weeks for visible signs of the collagen renewal.
Your patch test must have been carried out a minimum of 24 hours prior to your Micro Needling treatment.
Micro needling is not suitable if you:-
• Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions on the skin

• Have had Roaccutane in the past 12 months

• Have undergone radiation treatment to the skin within the last year

• Have any kind of current skin infection, condition, herpes simplex in the area to be treated

• Are pregnant or is breast feeding
Please take note of the following prior to your treatment:

• No Retin-A products or applications 12 hours prior to your treatment.
-
• No auto-immune therapies or products 12 hours prior to your treatment.
-
• No prolonged sun exposure to prior to the treatment, the treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.

• Do not take aspirin, Ibuprofen or Coumadin for 2 days before and 2 days after the procedure.
-
• Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor.
-
• It is recommended to wait 2 weeks after any Botox treatment before Micro Needling can be done.
-
• It is recommended to wait 2 weeks after and Filler Injectables before Micro Needling is done to avoid an inflammatory reaction.
-
• Immediately after your Micro Needling procedure, do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, these agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation.

• Keep the area dry directly after treatment, this allows the serums used to soak into the skin.
-
• Avoid makeup for a minimum of 12 hours.
-
• Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 24 hour.
-
• Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
-
• No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.

• After 24 hours apply a suncream with a minimum SPF30 daily.
What to expect post treatment
Directly After Treatment: You may feel a little tender and your skin warm and tingly directly after this treatment. Some redness maybe visible similar to mild to moderate sunburn, this subsides within a few hours with only slight redness the following day.
Days 2-7: A couple of days following your Micro Needling treatment, you may notice your skin is dry and beginning to flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells.
During this period, you may apply moisturizer. Skin shedding is part of the regeneration process and is nothing to be concerned about.
Results vary, but usually a course of 1-6 treatments is typically recommended. Of course, results may vary for each client. Keep in mind that the healthier your body is, the better will be the results you achieve from a Micro Needling procedure. Your body’s function and overall health are reflected in your skin.
Most clients report fresher looking skin following the treatment however it can take upto 6 weeks for the collagen regeneration and repair which is when signs of the treatment will become more visible.
