Dermal Fillers

The injection of dermal fillers is one of the most commonly performed procedures in cosmetic dermatology practise. Dermal Fillers are injections used to increase volume, create definition and shape or fill out wrinkles in the skin. There are many different types of filler available such as:

• Collagen

• Hyaluronic acid

• Calcium hydroxylapatite

• PLLA (poly-L-latic acid)

• PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate beads)

We use a variety of industry leading brands of Hyaluronic Acid fillers dependant on your needs, the area to be treated and the look you want to achieve, such as Juverderm®, Restylane®, Teosyal®and Princess®. Hyaluronic Acid is a type of sugar found naturally in our bodies. It is a water loving molecule that binds upto 400x its weight in water to provide a smooth gel which causes a plumping effect and elasticity to the skin. The fillers we use do not contain any animal or human DNA which makes them some of the safest fillers available on the market today.

Treatment Areas

Lip enhancement

Lip augmentation using fillers can create more definition or volume to your lips. It will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and create a more youthful appearance. Lip fillers are very effective for plumping a naturally thin lip or lips that are thinning from age. Whether you just want a fuller irresistible pout or to add a bit of volume and even out your natural lips then this treatment could be right for you! Sara offers a variety of techniques and products to create the perfect pout dependant on the look you are wanting to achieve.

Marionette Lines

Marionette lines are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down towards the chin. They typically start to appear due to aging from a combination of the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin, they are often more prominent in smokers and those that have a lot of sun exposure. Some people may also develop vertical lines all around the lip as they age, this is especially common in smokers. Dermal fillers can be used to restore volume and smooth out all of these lines.

Nasolabial Folds

Nasolabial folds are the folds of skin that run from either side of the nose to the corners of the mouth, often referred to as smile or laughter lines. The depth/visibility of nasolabial folds are defined by genetics, ageing and certain lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, smoking and rapid weight loss.

Cheek Contouring

Dermal fillers can be used to help enhance the look of cheek bones and restore lost facial volume which can occur when we age. It plumps and softens facial creases and is built up to create more definition providing a more youthful look without the use of surgery.

Jawline Sculpting

A strong defined jawline is a desired look for many men and women. Whether the lack of definition is due to age or genetics dermal filler can be used to create a more structured look and define the chin and jowl area.

Chin Augmentation

Dermal fillers can be used to reshape the chin, allowing for more symmetrical facial features and creating the perfect ratio for your facial proportions. By adding filler to a disproportionally small chin can completely change the contour, shape and balance of the face.

Tear Trough

Many people suffer from dark circles or eye bags. By applying a special dermal filler under eye filler we are able to plump out the hollow of the eye giving it a smoother appearance. The hydrating properties of hyaluronic acid means the under the eyes is also nourished and hydrated making eyes appear brighter. At Sara Lancaster Advanced Aesthetics we use Teosyal Redensity 11 which is the only licensed filler in the uk for the use under eyes.

Non Surgical Rhinoplasty

Non surgical rhinoplasty sometimes known as the 15 minute nose job is a great treatment option for people who do not want to undergo surgery but want to alter the shape of their nose. Results are instant, there is no need for no general anaesthetic and no prolonged healing.

Pre procedure advice

• In order to minimise the risk of bruising please refrain from taking any blood thinning over-the-counter medications such as Aspirin, Coumadin or Ibuprofen for 1 week prior. Please consult your physician if you are taking Aspirin for medical reasons!

• Avoid supplements including St. Johns Wort, ginko biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and Vitamin E for 1 week.

• Do not drink alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to treatment.

• Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, or any "Anti-Aging" products for 3 days prior.

• Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or hair removal cream on the area to be treated for 3 days prior.

• If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores. In this instance it is recommended you start a course of antiviral medication to reduce the risk of a breakout.

• Schedule your Dermal Filler appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Results from the Dermal Filler will take approximately 4 to 7 days to settle. Also bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.

• Please note you will not be able to have dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any ingredients, or suffer from neurological disorders.

Post procedure advice

• Immediately after the treatment, there may be redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness, and/or itching near the injection site. Avoid itching, massaging, or picking around the injection site. This is normal and generally disappears within a few hours to a few days. If these symptoms last more than 3 days, please contact me.

• You may take over the counter pain relief if you deem necessary.

• A cold compress may be used. Please do not hold directly on the area for more than 10 minutes at a time.

• Avoid drinking alcohol or partaking in strenuous exercise, as it may result in additional bruising.

• Until the swelling and redness has settled, avoid intense heat in the treated area(s). ie: sunbeds, saunas, hot tubs, waxing.

• To help alleviate bruising you may apply arnica cream • Try to minimize movement of the treated area(s). DONOT exercise for 48 hours after your procedure as this can cause migration of the filler.

• If you experience a visible bump, you can massage the area after 48 hours once the tenderness has subsided (please contact me to notify if you experience this.)

• Depending on the areas treated and the product used, you may feel "firmness". These areas will soften and settle with time (usually 1-2 weeks).

• Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.

• Sunscreen and makeup can be applied, and the area can be gently washed with a gentle cleanser. Sara recommends the use of RegimA Zone skin care products. A good daily moisturiser that contains SPF is a vital part of any skin care routine. If you would like to discuss skin care further please just ask!

Please contact us immediately if you experience:

• Fever and/or chills

• If the area appears red, hot to the touch, and "angry" looking.

• Severe pain or increasing pain

• Discoloured blotches in areas not injected or blanching of injected areas

The most typical side effects (bruising, swelling, redness) are temporary and will resolve. However, please call the office to notify us if you experience any additional side effects.

Please remember that any injection causes the body to have a natural inflammatory response.

It is common for the area treated to continue to swell in the hours following your procedure and to remain swollen for up to two weeks. During this time the area treated may feel tender, be bruised and feel a bit bumpy. Please do not panic this is all part of the normal healing process.

After this time, it can appear that ‘the filler has disappeared’ this is not the case, for many you have just adjusted and become used to the post treatment swelling that initially worried you!

The results of your treatment and durability are influenced by many factors such as genetics, age and lifestyle. It is very hard to predict how many sessions each individual will need to achieve their desired result and although this will be discussed with you at your consultation and your will be advised as best as possible we cannot be held accountable if several sessions are needed. Aesthetics is an art process - not an exact science.

Please remember any non surgical treatment is used as a way to enhance your natural features it is not possible to completely change them. Our faces are not symmetrical and although symmetry can be improved with dermal fillers it is not always possible to achieve this and in some cases the application of fillers can make this appear worse. A full consultation is always provided and your desires will be discussed during this time, remember your facial anatomy may not be right for the look you are wanting to achieve. You will be best advised of the options available to you to help reach the appearance you desire.
